Marisa Villacis-Gastambide

As a mechanical engineer for many years I used metals to design bridges and towers. I then had the opportunity to live in Mexico, where I discovered another kind of design: a world of different colours, forms and techniques. I discovered the art of “alebrijes”. Alebrijes are magnificent “monsters” made of papier maché. I want to bring the art of papier mache to Thinkers Meet Up to help Thinkers discover their ideas and their talents while they practise their Spanish and French!

My sculptures are

1) Practical because they can be used as shelves, plates, whatever!

2) Visually striking and decorative

3) helpful to children and adults in facing their fears.

My creations are crazy and funny; who can stay afraid of them?!
