Service Description
This is a 4-Week interactive course for anyone with an interest in history, the ancient world, and in what makes a healthy society. ** Book now for the 4-week course, or for individual classes please email: thinkers.jo@protonmail.com ** Join to learn more about big ideas in the ancient world, why they mattered, how they worked, and what we can learn from them. This course will help you to understand Greek and Roman history and society better, and to understand more about the ideas that underpin our own modern societies. How can people get on better, live together happily, challenge each other and ourselves, and make our communities healthier and happier? What you will learn: Week 1: Bridging the Ideological Divide in Democratic Athens: how can you live with people whose views you find unpalatable? Week 2: Ancient Role Models: why we need to handle with care! Why do some public figures still align themselves with (misrepresentations of) people from the ancient world? Week 3: Rebels, Idealists, Realists, or Conformists: who is better for society? Case studies from Greece and Rome. Week 4: The roles of Individualism and Community: incompatible or creative tension? Case studies from Greece and Rome. Course includes: ✓ Live interactive sessions with a subject expert - Jo Cogan, Classics Tutor and Writer ✓ A rich discussion and exploration of ideas from Ancient History, exploring ancient literature, history and philosophy, archaeology, modern scholars' interpretations, and applications for the modern world ✓ Practical tools for civic engagement ✓ Networking with like-minded community members ✓ Certificate of completion What this is NOT: a boring lecture you will sleep through, a tedious regurgitation of theories. A session that will tell you what to think. What this is: an engaging dialogue that presents you with new and challenging ideas, and gives you space to explore your thinking and ideas. Applying a deep understanding of history to creating a better modern world.
